Madderbrad's drabble -- "Restoration"

madderbrad  requested a drabble about Harry and Luna's friendship.

Here it is. The title is Restoration.

***

Harry’s left hand is fourteen inches from his wand, in the recommended orientation for a steadying spell at increased height. Above him, Luna, reaching precariously upward with her own wand, is creating a portrait of Hermione on exactly one-fifth of the ceiling.

“I thought you used a paint brush,” complains Harry.

“Drips,” says Luna, distracted.

“Say,” he says. “Why is it just the five of us? You have more friends than that.”

“No,” she says, still working. “Not if you think about what it really means to be a friend.”

“I’ve never thought about it.”

“Yes, you have,” she answers.

  • Awww...*puddles*
  • Perfect!

I take it she's repairing her room?

    And drips? Upwards?

    Ah, Luna. :-)
    • Thanks!

Yes, she's repairing (replacing, probably; the house was mostly demolished). He's helping.

By "drips," I think she means that a paintbrush would drip on her if she used it at that angle (a la Charleton Heston in The Agony and the Ecstasy).
  • That is such a Luna thing to say! Lovely like all good Luna stories.
  • *sigh*

Such a perfect Luna. Well done, Ken.
  • Oh, lovely! Your drabble (like your Luna) really makes one stop and think!

I miss you writing more, by the way!
    • Thanks, Joia.

As for missing my writing, I've done four drabbles in eight days! (Five, if you count the one that's locked -- would you like to join the "Original Fiction" list (see my posting of Aug. 28th) and read it, by the way?) But I'm grateful for the sentiment. It means a lot to me that you like the writing.
      • I know! I realized after I posted that I should've clarified that I was missing your longer HP stories, as I knew you had been writing drabbles lately! So, whoops! ;-D
  • *hugs you* Beautiful, Ken. Simply beautiful.
  • Great stuff Ken, thank you! Reading this is a great way to start the day.
    • Good morning, then! For some reason it was really hard to get started on this one. It took me a long time to find a hook.
  • Wonderful. The last line was the one that changed it from just being good to being something quite special. Thank you.
    • Thank you too, Bel. That last line makes it for me, too. The great thing about drabbles is also the infuriating thing -- you have to suggest, suggest, suggest without ever actually saying.
